Hello Ladies, For May, I’ve planned something a little different, a little memorable, and (I hope!) a lot of fun. In honor of Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, both held in May, and the upcoming 250th birthday of the United States (the SemiQuincentennial) in July, I’ve arranged for a very special guest… Martha Washington will be in attendance! Portrayed by Dee Collier of Dee’s Historic Characters, this engaging monologue brings Martha to life in a way that is both entertaining and enlightening. Martha Washington is often remembered publicly for her role beside George Washington, but privately she was deeply rooted in her identity as a mother and grandmother, and that part of her life was central to who she was. While we know her as our nation’s first First Lady, this presentation reveals the woman behind the title—known to family and friends as “Patsy”—a strong, forward-thinking figure and a passionate supporter of the American Revolution. Martha was an essential source of stability and support during the American Revolutionary War. When her husband, George Washington, became the first President of the United States, Martha helped define what it meant to be First Lady. She is often remembered as a strong but modest figure who provided emotional stability, dignity, and quiet leadership during the birth of our nation. Martha Washington is a remarkable figure we don’t often hear enough about, and this Ladies Lunch is the perfect opportunity to learn her story. Dee spends 100 to 200 hours researching and writing each performance to ensure historical accuracy while keeping it lively and engaging. She appears in full character, shares fascinating insights, and welcomes questions afterward. She will also have a display table with visuals and supporting materials to enrich the experience. This event has elevated beyond what I originally imagined. So excited! Please come on time at 11am. That is key to a perfect launch! We’ll be seated at two long tables (just how we like it!)—perfect for conversation, connection, and a lively atmosphere. The plan is smooth and efficient: servers will take both drink and food orders right away, drinks delivered immediately before Martha arrives, and once the monologue concludes, your lunch will be served without delay. No waiting around—just a relaxed, enjoyable experience from start to finish. It will be a wonderful social afternoon. I can’t wait to share this experience with all of you.
